CABLE BOXES IN STOCK

We have a limited number of all cable boxes in stock with the exception of the DCT6208.

CABLE BOX CHANNELS

Cable box channels numbers have traditionally been the same as regular TV channel numbers in the analog world. Digital programming, however, assigns "Display Channels" that have no relationship with the physical channels used to deliver their signals. If you want to receive the unencrypted digital channels without a cable box, the display channel numbers will not apply to you--instead, identify them by their having a decimal point in their channel number. For the convenience of our customers, our online TV lineup has both numbers.

Our cable boxes use the following display channel ranges:

2-99
Analog TV
100-199
Bay Area and Sacramento Digital TV stations. Some national cable channels will be added soon.
300-499
Digital Variety Pak
500-599
HD Pak and HD Premiums
600-699
Premium movie channels
800-899
Pay-per-view
900-999
Music channels

LEASE/PURCHASE

If you lease a cable box and decide later to purchase it, we will apply up to three months of your lease payments to the purchase price.

REMOTES

Different cable boxes use different remotes. Replacement remotes are $10 plus tax. "Function" is the number of devices that the remote can control (e.g., TV, DVD player, VCR, etc.).

Cable Boxes

Our system has been upgraded to support a wide variety of cable box choices, including cable cards that plug into third party cable boxes and devices of various kinds. Two of these models have built-in Digital Video Recorders (DVRs) that do not require a third-party subscription agreement. The table below shows the differences at a glance. Depending on your TV and the programs you want to watch, DSR470 users should consider upgrading to one of these alternatives.

All of the cable boxes have all the outputs necessary to work with any TV set.

Limited quantities of cable boxes are available.

*The "No Box" column assumes a digital HDTV with NTSC and QAM tuners built-in and no cableCARD slot. TVs with CableCARD slots generally require the card to be present except for analog channels.

**Does not display information on individual music selections.

***We have recently determined that the DCT6412 has an uncorrectable tendency to intermittently tile video and drop out audio, especially on HBO. This box is not recommended for any digital movie paks, or the Digital Variety Pak. If you have one of these boxes, please contact us for an upgrade to a DCH6416 at the same rate/price.

Further information on each box is provided below.

DSR470 SD Cable Box

Up until this year, the DSR470 was the only cable box compatible with our system and over 100 still remain in use. But as we have upgraded the system and customers have upgraded their TV's, the DSR470 is no longer the cable box of choice. It will continue to work on analog channels and digital paks, but it is not capable of receiving the local digital channels not duplicated in analog form, it cannot process any high-definition signals, and it cannot be authorized on the new Digital Basic pak, all of which are part of an Expanded TV subscription. If you have an analog TV, we recommend that you upgrade your DSR470 to a DCT2000. Outputs: Composite or Channel 3/4. Download User Manual.

DCT2000 SD Cable Box

This box is for standard definition TVs and will handle all analog and digital programming on the cable including unencrypted broadcast channels. It will not handle any high-definition channels, however, so if the only digital signal available from a local broadcaster is HD, you will have to tune to the analog channel. Outputs: Composite, S-video, or Channel 3/4. Download User Manual.

DCT6200 HD Cable Box

The DCT6200 is a high definition cable box that will handle all analog, standard- and high-definition programming. It will work with any high-definition TV or monitor.Outputs: Composite, S-Video, Component, DVI, and optical digital audio. DVI to HDMI adaptors are available. This box can down-convert HD signals for an analog TV, but the guide will not appear when a HD channel is tuned in. Download Cable Box Manual. Download iGuide Manual.

DCT6208 HD Cable Box with DVR

The DCT6208 is identical to the DCT6200 but ncludes a one-tuner DVR that can record programming, pause the current program, etc. Outputs: Composite, S-Video, Component, DVI, and optical digital audio. DVI to HDMI adaptors are available. 80 GB hard drive (30 hrs of SD programming, 7 hrs of HD programming). NOTE: relatively high fan noise on these units. Download User Manual. Download iGuide Manual.

DCT6412 HD Cable Box with Dual Tuner DVR

Identical to the DCT6200 but has a dual tuner DVR that can record two programs at once or watch one program while another program is being recorded. 120 GB hard drive (45 hrs of SD programming, 10.5 hrs of HD programming). Download user Manual. Download iGuide Manual. Not recommended for use with premium movie packates of the Digital Variety Pak due to intermittent video tiling and audio drop-outs. If you have one of these boxes, contact us for a DCH6416 upgrade at the same rate.

DCH6416 HD Cable Box with Dual Tuner DVR

The DCH boxes have a sleek, new design but are functionally equivalent to the DCT6212 with a slightly larger and quieter hard disk. This box hosts a cableCARD (see below) which is included in the lease rate but which is leased separately on on a purchased box ($3.99/mo.) Composite, S-Video, Component, DVI, HDMI, and optical video outputs. 160 GB hard drive(60 hrs of SD programming, 14 hrs of HD programming). Compare this brand new unit with TiVo HD -- it costs less and does not require any connection to a telephone or the Internet. Download user Manual. Download iGuide Manual.

TiVo HD Dual Tuner DVR

Unlike the old TiVo's the new TiVo does not attach to a cable box -- it is a cable box! When equipped with a CableCARD (below), the new TiVo HD can access all our programming, including any digital premiums that you may have ordered. If you are already a user of the earlier TiVos, you already know how well designed this unit is and all the extra features that TiVo offers over ordinary cable boxes. Our unit comes with lifetime TiVo service for only $599 plus tax. Click here for details.

CableCARD (M-Card)

Provides the necessary decryption functions for subscription digital paks.
