The New 80 Hr. Dual-Tuner TiVo

Digital Video Recorders (TiVo)

NEW! TiVos that Record Two Programs at the Same Time!

Our new Dual-Tuner TiVo boxes can record two different TV programs at the same time. See the FAQ, below for details. Since Tivos are capable if controlling our Cable Box, you can record both analog and digital channels.

Never miss your favorite program again. TIVO will record all of the programs that you pick from its programming guide and will suggest additional programs by interest, actor, or title. It will give you instant replays on live TV and even allows you to effortlessly skip commercials. New features include automatic season passes for specified programs, and you can even add programming when you are away.

New optional features include adding your TIVO to your home network to access photos and music stored on your computer or move a TV program to your computer, laptop, or DVD burner. If you have more than one TIVO, you may now add them to your home network to share or transfer programming. And, of course, can transfer anything that TIVO records to your VHS or DVD recorder!

KID ZONE is now available on all TiVos as a free upgrade. Allows you to pre-approve shows that kids can watch and lets you pick among four kid-friendly guides.

Why by TiVo from Lucas Valley Cable?

We provide free installation as part of your purchase. We have all the necessary cables to do an optimal TiVo installation for your particular situation, including customers with cable boxes.

Important: When we deliver your TiVo box, you need to see up an account with TiVo before we can start installation. Standard rates for the required TiVo service are $12.95/month for a 3-year commitment (higher for shorter commitment periods). Prepaid service plans are $199 for one year or $299 for 2 years ($299 for 3 years special limit-time offer). Discounts for pre-paid 1, 2, and 3-year subscriptions are available. If you have two TiVos, the second unit qualifies for TiVo's Multi-Service discount.

Each TiVo needs a connection to a telephone jack or a broadband Internet connection. We can do this for you, but will need to charge for any house wiring that we may need to add.

TiVo FAQs

How does the Dual Tuner TiVo work with my Expanded Plan?
Any two of the Expanded Plan (analog) channels can be recorded at the same time.
My TV is very old. Can I use TiVo?
TiVo works with any TV, including old sets that only have an antenna input.
I only have Lifeline TV (Channels 2-13, 98). What will TiVo do for me?
Lifeline TV has nearly all of the Bay Area local channels, representing all major networks and independent stations. A dual-channel TiVo will record more TV than you will ever have time to watch, even if you only have this plan. And, of course, TiVo's on-screen guide feature is among the best in the industry.
How does the Dual Tuner TiVo with my Cable Box?
Since only one digital channel can be processed at one time by a cable box, the dual-tuner feature allows you to record one digital channel at the same time as one Expanded (analog) channel. It can also record any two Expanded channels simultaneously.
What does "80-Hours" mean?
An 80-hr TiVo will record 80 hours of TV content at "basic quality." However, most people prefer higher quality settings, so the actual stored time can drop to as low as 24-hours. Quality can be set to default at one value and you can set different qualities for programs that you set up for recording.
Why do you have only 80-Hour TiVos?
There has been little interest in 140-Hour TiVos, so we have stopped carrying them. However it is easy to upgrade a 40- or 80- hour TiVo to 140-Hour (or even more!) with upgrade kits from WeakKnees (we can do the upgrade for you). As for the 40-hr units, the rapidly dropping cost of disk drives has made the disk cost so small that the 40-hr units no longer make sense.
What about HDTV?
The Series II TiVo units that we sell do not record HDTV.
Connecting to the TiVo Service.
Every TiVo box needs to connect to the TiVo service either by telephone or Internet. These the new Dual-Tuner TiVos can plug into your wired Internet router (USB-Ethernet adaptors are no longer necessary). There are several benefits of using the Internet connection, including easier KidZone programming, Tivo access to photos and music stored on one or more of your PCs, etc. If you have wireless Internet, we can provide a TiVo wireless adaptor that plugs into TiVo's USB port (Photo at right. $60 plus tax).
How does KIDZONE work?
The KidZone guides are lists of quality kid's TV shows recommended by national children's organizations. You can select one or more of the guides, or can choose individual programs from the guides. Requires broadband connection to select guides from TiVo menus.
What about the TiVo Series III?
The new TiVo Series III, intended for HDTV, is not presently a good match for our system. First, it cannot control an external cable box. Instead, it provides slots for one or two CableCARDs, which we do not yet support. Secondly, its built-in ATSC tuner is intended for an outside antenna, which uses different frequecies than the cable channels that we use to distribute our HDTV signals.* Finally, the Series III is very expensive--$799.99 plus the service fee.

*We haven't actually purchased a Series III to see if its antenna input can receive HDTV signals on cable channels, but we have tried a DirecTV HD TiVo box with the same external antenna capability and that unit does not work on our system.
